Harvest Willows to Protect Clean Water

Volunteer Spring Willow Harvest
When: Wednesday, April 12th, 1 PM
Where: Big Sky Golf Course (meet at the Bunker parking lot)
What: Volunteer Willow Harvest
Why: Willows will be used to stabilize and revegetate streambanks along the Big Sky Golf Course to address impaired water quality and to improve habitat for trout.
We need about 850 more willows stakes and cuttings to continue restoration work on the West Fork of the Gallatin River. Thanks to killer volunteers, an awesome restoration workshop, the Big Sky Resort golf course crew, RE Miller & Sons, RESPEC Consulting & Service, MT Department of Environmental Quality, Big Sky Area Resort Tax District, and a Montana Conservation Corps crew, we’ve already harvested over 5,000 willow stakes cuttings to rebuild 3 streambanks and revegetate several near-stream areas, but we need several hundred more!
The Gallatin River Task Force and volunteers will be harvesting willows for the West Fork Restoration Project on Wednesday, 4/12 at 1 PM. This volunteer project will include light manual labor (lopping stakes, pruning willows, and bundling them into groups of 20), snacks, and fun!
Suggested equipment include: eye protection such as sunglasses, work gloves, water, layers, and water proof foot wear. Light refreshments, loppers, and hand pruners will be provided.
