The Gallatin River Task Force and Big Sky Community Organization will host the Hooked on the Gallatin: Youth Fly Fishing Camp during the Gallatin River Fly Fishing Festival. The Hooked on the Gallatin: Youth Fly Fishing Camp aims to inspire a lifelong passion for fly fishing and watershed conservation.
The Youth Fly Fishing Camp is scheduled for July 19th to 21st during the Gallatin River Fly Fishing Festival.
Local fly guides will teach essential fly fishing skills including knot tying, fly tying, casting, reading the water, fish handling etiquette, and safe wading techniques. Gallatin River Task Force staff will emphasize river conservation by leading activities focused on etymology, native fish species, catch & release principles, leave no trace ethics, and trout habitat.
Registration is $75 for three half day sessions plus a Montana fishing license (details below). The morning session is designed for fourth through sixth grade students and the afternoon session is geared toward seventh and eighth grade students.
All other equipment and supplies are included with registration.
The Hooked on the Gallatin: Youth Fly Fishing Camp was made possible by a grant from the Spanish Peaks Community Foundation and donated rental equipment from Jimmy Armijo-Grover, Gallatin River Guides.
