Help us complete our October water quality monitoring, including taking streamflow measurements, collecting water samples to be analyzed, and taking field measurements. We’ll be out for the whole day gathering data on streams around Big Sky. You can come for as little or as long as you’d like (though, it’s best to plan to come for no less than one hour to make sure you can support least one site), and you can come any time during the day that works for your schedule.Â
Meeting Location: We will be at various different sites throughout the day and will keep in touch for a meeting location depending on what time you’re able to join. If you’re able to arrive at 8am, we will be meeting at Big Sky Community Park. Most of our sites are in the Big Sky area, but the furthest one is about 20 minutes south.
What to bring: Waders if you have them or sturdy shoes/boots/sandals that can get wet. The water is getting quite cold again, and air temps are chilly, so bring appropriate warm layers. Bring rain gear, sun protection (hat, sun shirt, sunscreen, etc), water, bug repellent, and snacks/lunch. A wading staff or stick can also be handy if you have one.
Gallatin River Task Force provides: All necessary tools, snacks, water
Additional Info: Please note that there are many different roles that you can help out with, so if you are not comfortable wading in the stream, there will be other tasks that don’t involve much or any wading. If you would like to wade, just be aware that the rocks are slippery and even gentle looking water can be more powerful than it appears.
