New Activities Will Make a Splash at the Gallatin River Fly Fishing Festival Outdoor Fair

The sixth annual Gallatin River Fly Fishing Festival returns to Big Sky bigger and better than ever from June 30th to July 2nd, 2017. The Fly Fishing Festival features three days of fun-filled, family-friendly events that celebrate fly fishing and river conservation.

Last year, the festival raised $23,000 to ensure the Gallatin River flows with cold, clean, and abundant water, now and forever.

The Outdoor Fair presented by the RMR Group will make a splash in the Big Sky Town Center Park on Saturday, July 1st featuring the annual guide competition, a multi-sport race, and energetic bluegrass music by Low Water String Band.

Land the freshest catch in the net with Guide-Off newcomer, Bert Horsley.

The 2017 Great Gallatin Guide-Off will launch from the Town Center Park at 1:15 PM for two hours of fishing on the Gallatin River. Guide and client teams will return to the Town Center Park for the Guide-Off Olympics hosted by International Federation of Fly Fishers master caster, Dok Arvanites.

The contest features defending champion, John Sniscak, returning veterans, Lindsay Koenig and Adam Skaggs, and newcomer, Bert Horsley. Clients can bid online until June 30th.

The inaugural Great Gallatin Pedal, Paddle, Run-Off, a team triathlon, begins at 1:30 PM. Teams of three (or more) will bike from the Town Center Park to Lone Peak High School, paddle the Gallatin River from Porcupine Creek to the West Fork, and run from the intersection of Highway 191 and 64 back to the Town Center Park. Register online today!

Racers and anglers will return to the Big Sky Town Center Park for the Outdoor Fair complete with food, over 25 vendors, and activities for all ages.

The Outdoor Fair will culminate in an energetic performance by bluegrass quartet, Low Water String Band.

Dok Arvanites will host casting clinics at 2:30 and 4:15 PM that focus on casting heavy flies and casting into the wind.  While mom and dad are perfecting their cast, the kids will be busy with pony rides, face painting, aquatic insect identification, and gyotaku fish art. Josh Berry will provide kid-specific casting instruction upon request.

The Outdoor Fair will culminate in a foot-stomping concert by Lander-based, bluegrass band, Low Water String Band, at 5:00 PM.

The Gallatin River Fly Fishing Festival also includes the annual Pesca Fiesta on June 30th and will culminate in the Hooked on the Gallatin Banquet, an annual fundraiser for the Gallatin River Task Force, at the Gallatin RiverHouse Grill on July 2nd.
